What is Mold?
Mold is a type of fungus that grows indoors and outdoors.
It thrives in moist environments and spreads through microscopic spores in the air.
Some molds produce mycotoxins—chemical compounds that can affect the human body.
Not everyone reacts the same way to mold exposure.
How Exposure Happens
Common sources include:
- Water-damaged buildings
- Leaks or flooding
- High indoor humidity
- Poor ventilation
Exposure may occur through:
- Inhalation
- Skin contact
- Contaminated dust
Mold vs Mycotoxins
- Mold is the organism
- Mycotoxins are toxins some molds produce
Even after mold is removed, mycotoxins can remain in dust and belongings.
This is why symptoms may continue after leaving a moldy space.
